As of March 14th SpongeBob: The Musical is in full swing, and it’s a certified must see! The cast and crew have worked tirelessly to produce their best works, and according to French Narrator, Leo Beebe, they are “more prepared than Clue at least.” The production is full of committed actors, many of whom have future aspirations to continue in this field, like the queen of the stage Madison North Cleckler: Sandy Cheeks, who’s decided that acting is what she’ll do till death, or perhaps newly appointed stage manager Vienna Whiteside-Watkins is more on your speed, stating “Quite frankly, I am trying to get a job at Chipotle and I needed to put it on my resume.” With that being said, the production is not without its controversies, they may be best friends on stage, but as soon as the curtains come down, Leo Beebe and Xander Taylor get into big dancing fights with Beebe commenting “We do get in a lot of dance-offs.” Hopefully this heated rivalry won’t interfere with the audiences enjoyment, it is my professional opinion, however, that it shall only elevate the experience.
As for the musical escapade, songs have been a point of contention. While “(I Guess) I Miss You” is musical director, Ms. Leslie’s, favorite song, the musical’s instrumental leader, Mr. Motter, contends that the one to skip if you, say, need to use the bathroom is “Chop to the Top.” Not to mention musically, the production has been difficult, as Mr. Motter recounts, due to the many moving parts. Many of the songs have been hard to coordinate. With that being said every day is getting better and Motter stated that “Bikini Bottom Boogie” is sounding very good. Xander Taylor, who plays Patrick Star, states that in SpongeBob “You get pop music, rock, Jaz rapping, and me and my crew suddenly singing a gospel song.” He assures us it is a show you cannot miss!
All in all the message of this blog is COME TO SEE SPONGEBOB!!! A deep musical that has embedded themes relevant to today! This two hour show assures you a good time, be prepared to have a blast, and you may just walk out with a few songs stuck in your head.
